Dr. Ekwoge Abwe holds a Master’s degree in Primate Conservation from Oxford Brookes University, UK and a PhD. in Biology from Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA. Ekwoge’s research focus is on linking chimpanzee behavioral diversity to genetic and environmental variation associated with different populations of the species, especially the Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee. He is also interested in assessing association patterns and niche separation among different species of monkeys inhabiting rainforest and forest-woodland-savanna mosaic. His conservation focus is on empowering local communities adjacent to rich primate habitats to champion primate conservation through participatory monitoring of primate endangered populations, sensitization and developing alternative sustainable livelihoods. Ekwoge is currently the manager of the Ebo Forest Research Project in Cameroon, and a San Diego Zoo Global postdoctoral research fellow.
